The origin of drag chains
Drag chain, also known as electric Cable carrier drag chain (Cable carrier), is a device that bundles cables or air pressure pipes and oil pressure pipes to facilitate their rotation and movement.
In 1953, Professor Gilbert Waninger from Germany created the world's first steel drag chain. Waldric, the owner of KABELSCHLEPP, a company founded in Siegen, Germany in 1954, believed that cable drag chains were a brand-new upgraded market that could create a huge demand and began to promote drag chains to the market. A concept that emerged over 60 years ago has given rise to today's vast market.

Today, the original design of steel drag chain samples has developed into various types of steel and plastic drag chains, which are used in many industries. KABELSCHLEPP, a company founded by Kabelschlepp, invented a plastic drag chain made by injection molding in 1967. It successfully pioneered more products: lightweight drag chains, 3D drag chains, and seamless drag chains.
As of 2007, there were more than seven global manufacturers, including FESMA, Murr Plastik, igus, KABELSCHLEPP, Metreel, M Buttkereit, Gortrac and Cavotec. In 2010, Tsubaki merged with Kabelschlepp, which is now Tsubaki Kabelschlepp.
Drag chains can be classified into steel drag chains and plastic drag chains. Steel drag chains are composed of steel and aluminum and can be customized. Engineering plastic drag chains are also known as plastic drag chains or tank chains. Drag chains are classified into three types based on different application environments and requirements: bridge-type drag chains, fully enclosed drag chains, and semi-enclosed drag chains. Rectangular frame metal hoses, protective sleeves, corrugated tubes and metal hoses can also be included in drag chain protection and portable power supply products.
